Serving Together
OUR COMMUNITY
UPC is involved and invested in our community and world as an outgrowth of our attempt to follow Jesus out into the world and partner with God and God’s people in transforming the world. Below are just some of the things we do and the organizations with whom we do them. Contact the church office for more info or to get involved!
I-HELP
A Tempe-wide effort to provide a stepping stone for those living on the streets to stable housing and a stable life. I-HELP is a program of Tempe Community Action Agency and a ministry of several faith communities in Tempe, many of which are part of the Tempe Interfaith Fellowship.
PAZ DE CRISTO
Humane Borders (Fronteras Compasivas)
Motivated by faith, offering humanitarian assistance to those in need through more than 70 emergency water stations on and near the border. Members of UPC drive to southern Arizona several weeks during the year to fill water stations strategically placed to provide water for migrants crossing the desert. This is a combined ecumenical effort with several other churches in the valley and Tucson and has raised awareness of border and migrant issues.
FAMILY PROMISE
Through Family Promise and in partnership with faith communities throughout the east valley, homeless families are provided shelter, case management, and nourishing meals. They spend the night in the church school wing and are provided with cots, bedding and towels. This effort gives these families and their children not only food and shelter, but homework help and recreation that they may not have had in a long time. UPC hosts our Family Promise guests quarterly.
